I never used to think about matching my lashes to my lipstick. I’d choose a lip color, add whatever lashes I felt like wearing, and hope the whole look worked.
Sometimes it did. Sometimes it looked a little off, even when every product was nice on its own.
The easiest way I’ve found to fix that is to think about the mood of the makeup. Your lipstick usually sets the tone, and your lashes should support it rather than fight with it.
Nude Lips: Keep It Soft
With nude lipstick, I usually keep things light. A natural, wispy lash like AiryCute Velure works really well because it adds a little lift without making the look feel too done.
It’s the kind of pairing I’d wear for work, coffee, brunch, or any day when I want to look polished but still relaxed.
Red Lips: Add a Little More Definition
A red lip already has a lot of presence, so the eyes need enough definition to keep the face balanced.
I wouldn’t go super dramatic, but I also wouldn’t wear lashes that are too subtle. Flaunt is a nice middle ground. It gives soft volume and makes the makeup feel more finished without taking attention away from the lipstick.
Pink Lips: Follow the Shade
Pink lipstick really depends on the color.
Soft pinks and rosy nudes look best with lighter lashes, especially if the rest of the makeup is fresh and glowy. Brighter pinks or glossy bubblegum shades can handle something more playful.
That’s where Viva works. The separated, manga-style shape gives the whole look a little more personality.
Berry and Plum Lips: Go Slightly Fuller
Berry, plum, and wine shades usually look better with slightly fuller lashes.
They can feel quite rich on the lips, so a soft volume style helps balance the face. I like Flaunt with these colors, especially with brown liner or taupe shadow.
Glossy Lips: Keep It Easy
Gloss is probably the easiest to style.
Clear gloss with Velure feels clean and effortless. A glossy pink lip with Viva feels trendier and more fun.
The Rule I Actually Use
There really isn’t a perfect rule. I just try to avoid making both the lips and lashes compete for attention.
When the lip is bold, I keep the lashes defined but balanced. When the lip is softer, I have more room to play.
That usually gets me to a look that feels put together without looking too planned.
